More Valladolid beauty before the (long) journey home - Day 6

After a restful sleep, we had the included breakfast of fruit, cheese, meat, toast, cereal, juice and coffee then took a short walk to Cenote Zaci. It was beautiful and empty so we decided to put on our bathing suits and pay the 30 pesos to go in. By the time we got back it was quite a bit busier but Jordan and Connor enjoyed jumping in and swimming while I took pictures and enjoyed the views. Steps and stalactites. After checkout, we had a leisurely lunch at El Atrio Del Mayab then walked to the ADO station. Lovely garden setting. Lomitas de Valladolid (Yucatean pork). Our trip home was delayed 2 hours - the bus just didn't show up! They ended up dispatching a replacement bus which was older but still comfortable and we were glad to finally get home after a wonderful trip.

Vibrant Valladolid - Day 5

Around every corner, there is some kind of eatery waiting to be discovered and this morning we had breakfast at cafe Maize, Canela & Cilantro surrounded by a gallery of amazing art by Douglas Greenwood. We took our first Uber to the ADO - excellent inexpensive service. 2 1/4 hours later we arrived in Valladolid and took a short walk through a very crowded street to our brand new stylish hotel. We ate lunch just off the main square at a La Ville bistro, a delightful place with an awesome menu, interior and attentive staff. The buildings were beautiful under the approaching sunset.  Jordan found his new favorite dessert - marqesitas, a crunchy cheese/sweet filled crepe, and Connor found a way to use up his energy. ¨I´ll have one with everything please!¨. ¨No you go ahead, mummy´s tired.¨ We spent the evening in the park taking in the enchanting scenery. Valladolid Catheral. More paired chairs. One final sugar...

Sightseeing in Merida - Day 4

Today we embarked on a walking tour of the downtown core. It was Good Friday and many businesses and restaurants were closed but we had a great  breakfast at the tiny Organico Cafe - cappuccinos, chilaquiles, waffles and zuccini french toast. Yes, you can have ice cream for breakfast! Merida is a beautiful, historical city and we easily navigated the central area on foot. El Jesus church. Mayan marketplace. Loom for fabric weaving.  We love our colourful sign photos! Adding a bit of culture to the day. Very opulent inside. Art in the city. Contemporary art in the Revolutionary Passage. Contemporary art. Later that evening we had supper at El Amaro Italian restaurant with a plan to see some entertainment in the main square but we got rained out! Luckily there was covered seating around the beautiful courtyard. Chaya and mushroom crepes.

Return to Merida - Day 3

We began the morning with a light breakfast near the beach then took a walk all the way along the Malecon to the Progeso sign. We walked back with our toes in the water, dipped in for a while then went back to the hotel to pack and check out. Pier and cruise ship in the background. You need some sailing lessons! Shallow water for a long way out. The bus trip back to Merida was traffic free and 10 minutes faster. We met our Airbnb host at the house and relaxed before seeking food. Walking towards the town center, we came upon a wonderful place called El Nuevo Tucho which was a large banquet hall with about 100 full tables and super loud live entertainment. Our round of drinks of came with a bunch of free tapas, our food was delicious and the service was outstanding. (700/50CND). Giant "you and me chair" in Santa Lucia Park. Kibis, refried beans, pickled beets, flautas, tortillas, garlic dip  - free BEFORE the meal! Don't bother wi...
