Friends move from Belize to Playa - yay, we have friends!

In April, three friends we met in San Pedro, Tom, Debbie and Shari, made the move to Playa after living for two years on the island. It makes a big difference having people to hang with! Dining and beach time are our best past times and weekly euchre with Deb and Tom. Lunch at Lido Beach Club. Enjoying the calm water. Supper at Latinos. Listening to the band at Wah Wah. Customary bucket! Cool tub at Deb and Tom's condo. Celebrating my birthday at Lido. Celebrating Deb's birthday at Wah Wah. Lunch at Casa Sophia. At city hall. Supper at Ula Gula. Farewell supper at Piola pizza.

School fun

Despite language challenges and the heavy homework schedule, Connor has enjoyed many fun events at the school. Colour Day Aquarium Trip St Patrick's Day crafts Performance by Mayan dancers to welcome Spring. Connor's teachers On April 28th, Mexico celebrated Children's Day and the school had a camp-out and sleepover complete with large campfire! Connor sure looked like he had way too much sugar and way too little sleep when we collected him in the morning but he had so much fun! Needed a sip of coffee!!

Goodbye 49!

Jordan and I have celebrated milestone birthdays with travel but as we now live this traveling life, I found myself quite content to welcome 50 years in casually. So we yanked Connor out of school and took our first Colectivo ride to the former fishing village of Puerto Morelos, 30 minutes north of PDC. The Colectivos are an inexpensive shuttle van system running every few minutes on the highway in the directions of Cancun or Tulum,  and within the city. We paid 75 pesos total and then took a cab for 30 pesos from the highway to the beach. The town south of the highway is charming and tranquil. We walked around for a while, took some photos and then had a leisurely lunch at La Sirena, a well reviewed international restaurant overlooking the beach. View as we approached. Yay, colourful sign photo! There are two lighthouses here. The original one was tilted over during a hurricane in 1967 but has remained standing since! Corny photo op! ...

Mission to get fitter: Walking and Riding

Around the beginning of March, I decided I needed to get moving more and shift some pounds as I approached my 50th birthday. I miss having my walking buddies but put my headphones on and embraced the beautiful surroundings we have. I signed up on MyFitnessPal to develop a calorie controlled eating plan. It's a slow journey but I'm getting there. The golf course provides a natural route of 6km so I started taking it in different directions for 30-40 mins per day and if really keen I make it the whole way round. I love snapping pics as I walk. Sunrise over the golf course. Dawn over the lake. Gorgeous homes. Wonderful tree lined route. Useful stops along the way! This guy at about 2km from the main gate. Another fabulous home. KM markers. Lake at Riu Lupita. On Tuesdays and Fridays, I take Connor's guitar to school and walk on 5th Avenue or the beach. Portal at sunrise. Empty 5th Ave. Clearing the overnight sarg...
