Dec 13-19

Mon - Beach but did not frolic. Drink at Tarraya. Walked back on 5th, not busy. Fantastic supper at El Fogon, which never lets us down. Tues - cleaning, chicken/mole at home, short 5th walk.  Wed - Groceries, smoothies from Nativo, chat with Cath then Sharon.  Thurs - gym, beach walk at lunch, supper at home.  Fri - great lunch at Papa Charly. Walk to city hall - boxing match!  Cocunut Curry chicken Sat - Beach, lunch at Los Portales del Mercado ($200)! Chilaquiles (just okay)  Mole chicken (delicious!)  Huge cheap menu Sun - chilling at home day. Made pulled pork fajitas. 

6-12 December Playa del Carmen

Mon - J off, bought hammock (30th av/50). Lunch La Bamba Jarocha.  Tues - Groceries with Homer and ordered Nikkori Sushi, Euchre night Wed - took laundry in, smoothies from Nativo, games, burgers at home, 5th walk (J staying off injured ankle). Thurs - gym, games, spoke to Connor's councilor re: semester courses, ginger chicken for supper. Fri - lunch Chapultepec, beach drinks at Tarraya, H to gym, ice cream Sat - gaming at home, beach walk from pier to Mamitas.  Supper at La Chema but underwhelming food. Churros in the square and Christmas lights.  Sun - 5th walk, burritos/chilli relleno at food carts (4 & 15), shops on Juarez. Lasagne from Pizza Renzo. 

Oct 11-17

Thanksgiving Monday holiday - lunch at Nativo, beach at 38th, Castillo's bakery, dropped off laundry.  Tuesday Picked up laundry, gym, homemade pasta Wed - mega for groceries, sandwiches, leftover pasta, walked to CTM then bakery for treats. Thurs - met Debs at Papa Charly for lunch, short walk to pier, hurt hip, boys got pizza from Mama Mia for supper. Fri - Tarraya Sat - Walmart for mattress topper Taberna Sun - Groceries Mega, sandwiches, games, street burger and movie (Sisters). 

Because Covid is stiil a thing - Playa del Carmen, Oct 2 -10, 2021

Saturday Oct 2 Arrived Saskatoon Airport at 6 am for first leg of Sask-Calgary-Cancun. All smooth sailing but last-minute arrival for boarding due to everything taking longer. Cancun Airport pretty empty, quickly through immigration. Taxi prices have risen to $1500 but managed to negotiate $900 with Smart Shuttle and friendly driver Juan. Waldo/Victor welcomed us back with familiar smiles at the guardhouse at Quadra Alea in Playa del Carmen.  Apt not as ritzy as last stay but still nice.  Dinner at Los Hijos, short 5th walk. Sunday walked to the Pier, lots of sargassum then grabbed tacos at Don Sirloin.  Monday, handymen, lunch at Caiman after finding Chapultepec closed down! Mega for food.  Tuesday, Connor had live lessons, discovered birria and ceviche at D'antojo Chilango then Walmart for fan and taxi home.  Wed, J back to work, gym, walked to Mamitas at lunch. Boys bought TV at Mega. 5th walk Thurs, grabbed chicken and mole from Mega. Rain Friday, lunch at T...

17th birthday weekend

Friday, July 9th Out for lunch at the Starboard Grill, short harbour walk and birthday cake at home. Clubhouse Poutine with smoked pork gravy Salmon Burger Our baby is 17! Saturday, July 10th Drove to Qualicum Beach, stopped in at Coombs with the famous Old Country Market goats, had a late lunch/early supper back in Qualicum at Lefties, then walked the lower falls at Little Qualicum. Goats on the Roof  Sunday, July 11th Trish and Rob came by for a visit while on their western Canada camping road trip.  

Leaving Coventry Hills, Calgary

After 4 years of renting in Calgary, our landlady decided to sell the house so we were faced with a time-sensitive decision. We hoped to be returning to Playa in the fall following the birth of grandchild number two, so did not want to commit to another lease. Fortunately for us, opportunities presented themselves, the first of which was to spend a month in Port Alberni, British Columbia staying at Jordan's brother and sister-in-law's second home. Following an annoying three months of viewings, the house finally sold. Now we had to deal with all of our stuff. Facebook Marketplace worked out nicely for decluttering and downsizing.  We offered a couple of things to our young neighbours which they could happily use. We  rented a small storage locker to house the few things we wanted to keep and hired a junk removal guy to deal with everything else.  Over the last two weeks of June, we moved boxes to the storage locker and finally moved our furniture on June 26th.
